Workshops

The Ganda Boys Workshops were launched in the summer of 2024, following successful delivery of music and culture sessions as part of a Youth Music Hub who funded us to provide workshops for several schools in the West of the United Kingdom. We began in July by delivering to a group of disadvantaged children as part of the U.K. Government’s National Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF). Through this vital programme, eligible children are provided with free access to attend Holiday Playschemes, where they receive a hot meal, and can take part in a variety of enriching activities. Our workshops fitted well into this ethos, and were soon recognised by Local Authority colleagues as a unique way to support education within the school system.

Since then, we have delivered across a variety of holiday schemes, schools, and private Early Years settings. We have shared our music and culture through a tailor-made interactive approach to support children with their cultural education. Many schools have asked us to perform assemblies to all pupils across the different year groups, whilst some have booked us for smaller group workshops, where children can take part in African dancing as well as singing, chanting and experiencing our story telling. Our delivery fosters a cultural curiosity amongst the children, enabling us to share our history, introduce new musical instruments, support learning through a fun ‘questions and answers’ time, and have left both staff and pupils uplifted and motivated to learn more about Uganda and the Kingdom of Buganda. Several thousand children across the United Kingdom have accessed our workshops so far, and as a result of this, have had their education enhanced to support them with understanding diversity, building empathy, promoting respect, preventing discrimination and strengthening community bonds.

We continue into next year with our bookings, both within schools and Holiday Scheme settings, and we look forward to expanding our delivery globally in 2025. Feedback has been key to ensuring that what we deliver works well, and the testimonials below are just some of the comments that have been gratefully received following our workshops.

Loved it – really lovely sound and harmonies should have been longer. Loved the stories too.

Beautiful. A story of hope told through music. It left me wanting to learn more.
